The Coastal peloton made it to Mandurah after a lengthy 170km journey from Busselton.
Along the way, the riders and support crew stopped in at Bunbury Senior High School where Team Hawaiian rider, Leah Pearson shared her personal story of life as a bullied and isolated teenager… and how, with the support of her family, she put herself onto a strong position to tackle the continuing challenges life throws out. She was strong and assured, and presented as an excellent ambassador for Youth Focus.
On the Ride, Friday is “pie day”, so the riders enjoyed some hot, tasty pies when they arrived at Australind Senior High School. Team Maca rider, Tihana MacGregor presented. Her story was one of coping with a mental illness through her teenage years, the courage it took to distance herself from some unsupportive “friends” and her ways of living a fulfilling, rewarding life.
At both schools, the students asked relevant questions around mental health and wellbeing, as well as numerous about the Ride, riding and the bikes. Overall, it was a great day to sum up a fantastic week so far.
The riders are relaxing now and are looking forward to dinner this evening. More than anything, they are looking forward to crossing the finishing line with honours tomorrow to see their loved ones.
